Recreation in The Bitterroot Valley - Darby, Montana

Our ranch (Rockin' Horse Ranch) is located in the best vacation area of Montana - The Bitterroot Valley / Darby (also referred to as the "Banana Belt" because of it's milder climate, quite different from other parts of Montana).  Rockin' Horse Ranch backs up to Bitterroot National Forest Service Land (where we often go horseback riding and ride our ATVs straight off of the property), and is only a mile away from the Bitterroot Valleys' designated "Off Road" area where there are seemingly endless roads and trails for not only horseback riding and ATV's, but also hiking, backpacking, site seeing, snowshoeing, etc.).  We are also located just minutes away from countless other outdoor recreational activities such as fly fishing and river rafting on the Bitterroot River, water skiing and boating at Lake Como and Painted Rocks Lake, snow skiing (cross country and downhill) and snow boarding 30 minutes South at Lost Trail Powder Mountain (at the Montana / Idaho border), panning for Saffires, mountain and road bicycling, etc...We also like to recreate right here at our very own "beer pier" at one of the two ponds at Rockin' Horse Ranch (click on "Ranch" for pics) and the kids like to hang out at our cool tree house where the pasture meets the forest at the rear of the property.

In addition, there are dozens of scenic Montana trails, lakes, cricks and rivers throughout the Bitterroot area and abundant wildlife everywhere you look.  The possibilities are almost endless, but here is a partial list (click on this link or scroll to the bottom of this page to check out the fun guide "101 Things to Do in the Bitterroot Valley"):

Lost Trail Powder Mountain (Lost Trail Pass), Sula, Montana - Montana's "Best Kept Secret in North America"

Lost Trail Powder Mountain, which is located only 30 or so minutes from our ranch in Darby at the Montana / Idaho border, is an exceptional ski facility with a non-touristy "local vibe" and the pricing for lift tickets and rentals is ridiculously reasonable.  The 2009 "Ski" magazine described it as, "the best kept secret in North America".

Fly Fishing on the Bitterroot River

Some of the best fly fishing in the world is here (have you seen the movie "A River Runs Through It" filmed right here in Montana in the Bitterroot Valley??).  And if you prefer a lure, there is no problem there either.  All you need is a tag, which can be purchased at Bitterroot Fly Fishing Company in our quaint town of Darby only 15 minutes away (in season only).

There are too many wonderful things to do and see here in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana to mention, but of course Rockin' Horse Ranch is the best place of all to hang out!!
